Councilors at the Leisure and Development Committee this evening gave the green light to the development of a scheme for tourist and campervan facilities for the Holiday and Leisure Park in Ballyreagh Road, Portrush.

Councilors learned how the Council owns and manages 6 holiday and leisure parks, offering facilities for static caravans, touring caravans, motorhomes, tents, wooden holiday modules and 1 Aire de Service for motorhomes. The holiday and leisure parks offer a mix of facilities for 940 static vans, 350 touring sites, 42 camping sites and 23 pods.

In recent years there has been a surge in demand for campervan overnight facilities, which has created a problem for those wishing to visit the area, and with the lack of pitches many campervans have resorted to unauthorized parking in unsuitable places. In the summer of 2021 the Holiday and Leisure Park team opened both Ballyreagh Field and later The Bowl, Causeway Street Portrush, to provide a temporary facility to meet the high demand for camping parking -cars.

Members approved moving to Stage 1 of the Capital Project Management process for the Ballyreagh Field Touring and Motorhome facility (Business Case, Costs and Outline Design).

The agenda item will be submitted to the full council next month for ratification.
