A Northampton-based vegan cookie company has launched a campaign to give care leavers a sweet treat this Christmas.
MoMa’s Cookies was launched by founder, Hulda Adao, alongside partners Junior Joto and Katya Pires, in July 2020.
The idea was born when Hulda started cooking in November 2019 and Junior, after tasting her cookies, suggested that she start selling them.
Since its launch, MoMa’s cookies have grown stronger, donating a percentage of their sales to a range of charities and now they are working with Right Resolution CIC to launch a “Donate a Box” campaign that will see those leaving care receive festive treats to enjoy this Christmas.
Hulda said, “My relationship with Right Resolution CIC goes back a few years because I worked for them.
“There I saw a gap with things that we don’t tend to consider – for example, sanitary products.
“No one usually thinks of giving these out for discharge or a box of cookies as a treat – there would be no reason for people to think about giving cookies and chocolates and things like that to them. people leaving care. “
Their vegan cookies come in four different flavors, including Original, Triple Chocolate, ‘Volcano Velouté’ and Coconut, Macadamia and Lime. Recent seasonal treats have included ‘pumpkin spice’ for Halloween and, more recently, ‘Christmas cookie’. All orders arrive in environmentally friendly packaging.
MoMa’s cookies have an advocacy program, whereby people choose a charity to support and offer a 10% discount code to anyone who purchases a box.
As part of this program, advocates have supported many charities including The Hope Center, Right Resolution and The Lowdown.
The cookie company also partnered with Right Resolution for National Care Leavers Week in October to provide care leavers with a baking kit so they can make their own cookies at home.
Right Resolution CIC Director Amarjit Pawar said, “The campaign will help deliver a great treat this Christmas.
“It’s been a tough year for a lot of people, especially the young people. A lot of people discharged from care often spend Christmas alone and it’s great that we can be a part of something that’s right for them.
“Having already worked in collaboration with Moma’s Cookies during Care Leavers Week, those leaving care have always liked to receive the baking kits. This time, it’s nice to be able to give a gift box for Christmas.”
Hulda added: “I would like to warmly thank the team at Right Resolution – they are only a team of three but they do so much to support those leaving care and I just want to work with them to help give the best to outgoing Christmas care ever. “
